You may ask.  Well, for one, no one likes that feeling when they are getting off of the chairlift of sliding down the slope, and slipping and falling.  Some of those slopes are really steep!  Some are really icy!  Any stomp pad will help give you traction, but this one is made from a super durable, rubbery material with molded spikes.  This will help give you the traction you need.  The split design allows you to spread the stomp pad apart, to cover more area .
